(May 15, 2008) It's been a busy month for human resources departments across the industry supply chain as sales forces are beefed up, management promotions and changes occur, and award recipients are announced. Here's a round-up of the latest companies with their names in the news.
Asymtek, a Nordson company announced the promotion of Chris Brown to regional sales manager, United Kingdom and Ireland, representing both Asymtek and sister company EFD's products, offering a full range of dispensing systems to customers throughout the region. Brown has been with Nordson for seven years as EFD's European business development manager for automated equipment. Prior to joining EFD, he worked for a Japanese distributor, selling robotics into the UK and Ireland. Brown has extensive experience in the medical and fuel cell industries in the UK. Brown received his HNC in mechanical and electrical engineering at Loughborough University in Leicestershire, UK.

ZESTRON expanded its sales and technical support organization in Asia/Pacific with the addition of Tiow Ping Sim as South Asia Sales Manager. Sim will manage ZESTRON´s local distributor network from the company's Singapore office. Sim graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the Queensland University of Technology and has over 15 years of experience within the SMT and Semicon industries. In addition, ZESTRON has added Steven Goh to the Asia Pacific team to support customers cleaning process selection, implementation and optimizations. In the Northeast,ZESTRON America has appointed Neil Murphy as North East Sales Manager.Murphy will be responsible for growing ZESTRON's product and service business while expanding the current customer base in the North East region. Murphy received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Massachusetts and has more than twenty eight years of sales and technical experience in the electronic and semiconductor manufacturing industry.

Semiconductor industry veteran, Benjamin D. "Dave" Allen, has joined i2a Technologies as operations and production manager. Most recently production supervisor for Vertical Circuits in Scotts Valley, CA, he held quality management posts at leading semiconductor equipment companies, including Genmark Automation and Brooks-PRI Automation and served in key management roles for quality, reliability, maintenance, training and customer service at several semiconductor manufacturers, including Advanced Micro Devices, MicroModule Systems, National Semiconductor, Performance Semiconductor and Quality Semiconductor.

Indium Corporation promoted Karl Pfluke to the position of senior account manager for the metals & chemicals business unit. He is responsible for sales in North America, with primary focus on the solar energy market. Pfluke has bee with Indium since 2001 as a technical support engineer and was named market development specialist in 2004. In 2005 he accepted the position of regional sales manager for the southeastern region of the USA.
Pfluke has a degree in manufacturing engineering technology. He is certified by MPIF as a powder metallurgy technologist and by the SMTA as a process engineer. Additionally, as an active member of the IPC Solder Alloy Standards Development Group, he has presented numerous technical papers.
Indium has also expanded its sales team in the Pacific Region with the addition of Sherwin Kobak as regional sales manager. Based in Portland, Oregon, Kobak is responsible for the sales growth of the company's soldering products throughout Northern California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. Sherwin has bachelors' degrees in business administration and biology from the University of Wisconsin and has performed graduate studies in business administration at Willamette University.
********** NEXX Systems provider of processing equipment for advanced wafer-level packaging applications has named John Bowers V.P. of Customer Operations. Richard Post, CEO, credits Bowers' experience in equipment sales and operations in the global marketplace "His insights will strengthen our position as a leading provider of capital equipment to advanced packaging manufacturers," said Post.
Prior to NEXX, Bowers spent 19 years at Novellos, as general manager of Novellus, Greater China region; and president of Novellus, SE Asia region.Most recently, he was managing director of Novellus' global account with Intel. Time at Focus Systems, Genus, Anelva, and Varian rounds out his 28 years in semiconductor capital equipment sales and sales management experience. Bowers holds and MBA from the University of Pittsburgh, and earned his undergraduate degree in mathematics and mechanical engineering at Bucknell University.
********* Executive management changes at Amkor Technologies since early April 2008 include the appointment of Ken Joyce as president, Gil Tily as chief administrative officer (CAO), and Eric Larson as Executive V.P. Product Management Group.
Joyce will also continue as COO and will report to James Kim, Chairman and CEO. Joyce joined Amkor in 1997 and was CFO for more than 8 years before becoming Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) in November 2007 and COO in February 2008. Besides succeeding Joyce as CAO, Tily will remain as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary and will have responsibility for finance, legal and human resources. Larson will have overall management responsibility for Amkor's product business units, including wire bond products, wafer-level processing and flip chip products, test services, R&D, emerging technologies and corporate development.

Louise Trevillyan, research staff member, design automation department, IBM T.J. Watson Research, is the recipient of the Ninth Annual Marie R. Pistilli Women in Electronic Design Automation (EDA) Achievement Award. The award honors Trevillyan for her contributions to the field of EDA throughout her career as a technologist and leader, and as a notable role model and mentor to others in the field. The award will be presented during the Workshop for Women in Design Automation (WWINDA) on June 9, 2008 as part of the 45th Design Automation Conference (DAC), at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif., June 8-13, 2008.
"Louise's contributions across a wide area of applications serve as an inspiration to all technologists working in the science and engineering of computer-aided design," said Peggy Aycinena, 2008 chair, WWINDA.
Trevillyan joined IBM in 1974 and has worked at IBM's T.J. Watson Research Center since 1978. Trevillyan has done extensive, groundbreaking research on logic and physical synthesis, design verification, high-level synthesis, processor performance analysis and compiler technology and holds 12 patents in design automation.

Premier Semiconductor Services, outsource provider of back-end services, was awarded the 2007 Harris Impact Award from Harris RF. The Impact Award is given by Harris each year to companies who have had a significant and positive impact on their production and business as a whole. Premier reportedly received the award for providing outsourced technical services to the Harris' RF Component Risk Team to eliminate counterfeit and defective material. Premier offers comprehensive IC counterfeit detection program using a statistical approach designed to assess the relative risk and exposure of parts being counterfeited. Screening components through this process affords cost avoidance by eliminating failures and rework. "We're very pleased to have received this award from Harris," said Dave Loaney, CEO of Premier. "It's great to know that we can make this type of positive impact on our customers through our IC Counterfeit Detection program. We see a growing demand for this type of testing as the global market for components brings in more and more players."

Multisorb Technologies, appointed Daniel Casacci as business development leader for the electronics market. In this role, Casacci will oversee market development for the company's portfolio of technologies that manage moisture, oxygen, hydrocarbons, and other volatiles to protect sensitive electronic products against degradation, and improve product reliability and performance. Casacci brings 19 years of experience in the electronics market to the company. He has worked as the V.P. of sales and marketing and director of operation at his previous positions. At Multisorb, he will work closely with design engineers at customer companies to create custom solutions addressing corrosion, oxidation and malfunction issues that any component, subsystem, or product exposed to the environment will face.
